Hassnae Bouazza is a Moroccan-Dutch journalist, writer, columnist, translator and documentary maker. Born in the Moroccan city of Oujda, she moved with her family to The Netherlands to join her father who worked there. Hassnae Bouazza studied English language and literature at Utrecht University. She writes columns and opeds for various periodicals and newspapers and she works for radio and television. She is known for discussing taboo subjects like pornography in the Arab world, for her defense of freedom of speech and her fierce criticism of intolerant extremists. Hassnae was the senior editor and director of the acclaimed documentary series Seks en de Zonde. She has an online magazine Aicha Qandisha. In 2015 she received the Arouwad Award for her work on the Arab world.
